The South Carolina Republican Party is on record opposing illegal immigration; and

WHEREAS:

The South Carolina Legislature is currently debating immigration issues; and

WHEREAS:

The procedure for verifying the employment eligibility of newly hired employees is critical to the security of our State.

THEREFOR BE IT RESOLVED:

The State Executive Committee of the South Carolina Republican Party calls for the South Carolina Legislature to utilize the E-Verify system within our proud State of South Carolina.

NOTICE OF ELECTION

The Republican Party will hold a primary election to
select nominees for Federal, State and County offices
on Tuesday, June 10, 2008. Any required run-off is
scheduled for June 24, 2008. This primary will be
conducted in voting precincts fixed by law in this
county.

Any person wishing to register to vote in the primary
election must do so no later than Saturday, May 10,
2008.

The polls shall be open from 7:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m.
at the polling places designated:

The Managers of Election shall see that each person
offering to vote takes the oath that he/she is 
qualified to vote at this election according to the
Constitution of this State and that he/she has not
voted before in this primary election or at any other
party's primary election, and has not participated in
the nominating convention for any vacancy for which 
this primary is being held. 

Voters who are blind, physically handicapped, or unable
to read or write are entitled to assistance in casting
their ballot. This assistance may be given by anyone
the voter chooses except his employer, an agent of his
employer, or an officer or agent of his union. The
Managers must be notified if assistance is needed.

Voters who are unable to enter their polling place
due to physical handicap or age may vote in the vehicle
in which they drove, or were driven, to the polls.
When notified, the Managers will help these voters 
using the curbside voting provision.

Registered electors who cannot vote in person may be
eligible to vote by absentee ballot. Persons wishing 
more information concerning absentee voting should
contact the Registration and Elections Office at
642-2028. The S.C. State Electon Commission's website
also lists information regarding Absentee Voting:

At 9:00 a.m. on election day, the Registration and
Elections Commission will begin its examination of the
absentee ballot return envelopes. This examination
will be held at 916 Vaucluse Road, Aiken, SC.

On Thursday, June 12, 2008, at 8:30 a.m., the County
Board of Canvassers will hold a hearing to determine
the validity of all challenged ballots cast in this
election. The hearing will be at 736 Richland Avenue,
West, Aiken, SC.

The Aiken County Republican Party’s Executive Committee 
voted Monday night, March 24, to fill vacancies among 
its officers as follows:
* Chairman: Dennis Saylor,
* Vice Chairman: David Lobb,
* Treasurer: Ginny Allen and 
* State Executive Committeeman: Diane Giddings.

Three of the new officers have previous experience in 
serving as Party officers: 

* Mr. Saylor had previously served as Secretary and 
then State Executive Committeeman; 

* Mrs. Allen had previously served as State Executive 
Committeeman and then Chairman; and 

* Mrs. Giddings had also previously served as Chairman.

“We are very pleased to have a team of leaders in place 
to move our party forward,” said Chairman Dennis Saylor. 
“I anticipate great things happening as filing closes 
and we approach both the June primary and November 
general election.” Mr. Saylor stressed the need for 
members of the party, and especially Republicans 
running for office in 2008, to pay their annual party 
dues as a means of showing support for the party.

Candidate filing opened at 12:00 p.m. on Sunday, 
March 16, 2008 and closes at 12:00 p.m. on Sunday, 
March 30, 2008. Candidate filings will be accepted at 
the Aiken County Republican Party’s Headquarters 
(127 Greenville Street SW, Aiken) during the final 
72 hours of the filing period: 
* Friday, March 28, 2008 from 2:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m.
* Saturday, March 29, 2008 from 8:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. 
* Sunday, March 30, 2008 from 8:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m.
