As those of you who attended last week's Bronze Elephant Reception with U.S. Senator Jim DeMint know, we had an extremely successful event. Thank you to every sponsor and attendee.

There will be an Aiken County Republican Party Executive Committee Meeting on September 3, 2009 at 7:00 PM in the auditorium of the Aiken County Council Building (736 Richland Avenue West, Aiken, SC 29801). This meeting is for all precinct Executive Committeeman and Presidents who were duly elected at their precinct reorganization meetings.

In order for the County Party to conduct necessary business, it is important that your precinct does not go unrepresented. If the precinct Committeeman or President cannot attend this meeting, it is the Committeeman's responsibility to designate a proxy to represent the precinct for this meeting. Committeemen will be receiving a hard copy of the call to the upcoming Executive Committee Meeting in the mail, along with a copy of the Executive Committee Proxy Form. In order for designated proxies to be eligible to vote at the meeting, they must present this completed and signed Proxy Form during sign-in.

I'm putting out a call for volunteers who are interested in taking over some or all of the duties that have been done by our Webmaster/Communications Director for the last 7 years. I'm hoping to make an appointment on Thursday night at the Executive Committee meeting. If you are interested in volunteering in this capacity, please contact me at 803-257-1709 as soon as possible.

Don't forget that the Aiken City Council Republican Primary Election will be held on Tuesday, September 8. We're grateful for everyone who has volunteered to help run the polls that day. It is exciting to have so many Republican candidates on the ballot and I wish each candidate the best.

I am making you aware of the following opportunity as a courtesy, not a recommendation.

There is a so-called Taxpayer March on Washington, DC, scheduled for September 12. According to 912DC.org, this event is for "Anyone that believes in limited government, and wants to see lower taxes, less government and more freedom." The site further says, "This protest is about defending our liberty, and about restoring our Constitution by reducing the size and scope of the federal government."

We're in the early stages of planning for a number of events in October, including

the Sassafras Festival,
the Atomic City Festival, and
the Western Carolina State Fair.

Details will be shared at the party meeting on Thursday night.

First, let me say "Thank you!" to everyone who responded to my plea to help with our urgent need for 30 volunteers to work the election on Tuesday, September 8.

Ok, in spite of two sets of eyes on the first email newsletter we sent out yesterday, there was a typographical error in the paragraph we published about the forum. What I meant to say was that there will be an Aiken City Council Candidates Forum on Monday, August 24 from 6 p.m. - 8 p.m. at the Aiken Municipal Building, 214 Park Avenue SW, Aiken, SC 29801. All of the Republican candidates have been invited to attend.

Senator Jim DeMint is currently touring South Carolina to talk with voters about the wrong direction a Democrat-controlled Washington is taking our nation and the conservative ideas that can restore our freedoms.

Urgent Needs

The Aiken County Republican Party has some urgent needs right now. You may or may not be aware that since the members of Aiken City Council voted some time ago not to make that body non-partisan, our organization is in charge of running their Republican Primary election.

We urgently need 30 volunteers to work the election on Tuesday, September 8. The Party will provide lunch to all workers.

Poll worker training will be provided at the

This is a very exciting time for Aiken County Republicans for all the reasons I will outline below. I am asking for your help with and participation at these events, as many as you can attend.

There was a good representation from the Aiken County Republican Party at the South Carolina Republican Party's County Leadership Training Summit on Saturday, July 25. I look forward to telling you more about that tomorrow night.

The Aiken County Republican Party will hold its regular monthly meeting tomorrow night, Thursday, August 6, at 7 p.m. at the Aiken County Council Building, 736 Richland Avenue W, Aiken.

Our guest speakers will be:

Candidates for Aiken City Council;
Candidates for Aiken County Council, District 5;
Candidates for U.S. Congress, CD3, among whom Jeff Duncan is confirmed; and
Caleb Paxton and Chad Connelly of Conservatives in Action speaking on the School Choice issue.

Committee heads are expected to attend to give a brief summary of the work they have done since their committees initially met on June 4.

A Republican primary election will be held for Aiken City Council on Tuesday, September 8. A runoff election, if needed, will be held on Tuesday, September 22.

The party desperately needs at least 30 volunteers to work the polls that day. Training is available and lunch will be provided by the party. The precinct locations will be announced at a later date. Filing for this election opened at noon on August 3 and will close at noon on August 10.

A Republican primary election will be held -- to elect someone to fill the remainder of the unexpired term for the Aiken County Council District 5 seat -- on Tuesday, September 15. A runoff election, if needed, will be held on Tuesday, September 29.

Our next County Executive Committee meeting is scheduled to take place at our party meeting on Thursday, September 3. If your precinct is organized, please make sure that a voting representative (Executive Committeeman or President) is present.

Just as a reminder, we meet on the first Thursday of each month (unless a meeting is canceled). For the rest of 2009, our monthly meeting schedule is:

September 3;
October 1;
November 5; and
December 3.
